A man standing near a theme park ride became an unexpected hero on TikTok after making an incredible catch.
The moment was captured in a video posted by TikTok user @mamasiii on August 11. The footage shows a ride carriage flipping upside down, causing a cellphone to slip from one of the passengers’ grasp.
The video, which has garnered more than 1.5 million views since it was posted, features a message overlaid on it that reads: “When your son’s friend drops her phone on the ride and it lands right in the guy’s hand.”
The viral clip shows the carriage swinging high into the sky, with the phone suddenly plummeting down. Miraculously, the device lands directly in the hands of a man standing nearby, who swiftly catches it before it hit the ground.
After making the catch, the man is seen shaking his hand, likely reacting to the force of the phone’s impact. The caption shared with the video reads: “So glad i caught this s/o [shout out] to him.”
The viral post comes as the global amusement parks’ market size was valued to be $56.32 billion in 2022 and forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.2 percent from 2023 to 2030. This is according to a report by Grandview Research, a market research and consulting company headquartered in San Francisco. The report found: “Innovative rides, accommodation facilities, and merchandise in amusement parks are gaining popularity among visitors of all age groups.”
“As a result, there is a rise in the number of adults and children visiting amusement parks, thus expanding the size of the target audience,” the report said.
Last month, Six Flags and Cedar Fair completed an $8 billion merger, creating a “leading amusement park operator” that will manage more than 51 properties across North America.
TikTok users were impressed by the man’s quick reflexes and the extraordinarily lucky nature of the catch. User e commented: “I just KNOW it hurt.” The original poster confirmed the sentiment, replying, “It did hurt!! He was looking at his hand and shaking it the whole time.”
“HOW LUCKY CAN U BR,” posted @kamihrt, while hamani589 added: “THAT WAS SO COOL.”
Others were delighted by the man’s reaction. “Ik [I know] he was proud,” commented @darealmonze, while another user, uhhh, wrote: “Awe his face when he caught it.”
User sav posted, “I would start crying tears of joy,” while brandy added: “I would’ve gotten on my hands and knees thanking that man.”
